TERMINAL BUILDING
The Terminal is one of the newest, most efficient and environmentally sound buildings of its kind anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.

It houses offices, comfortable lounge areas, conference rooms and is open year-round during the day and at night by appointment.

USFS HELIBASE
An equally efficient USFS Helibase complex is joined to the terminal from which wildfire suppression efforts can be staged and executed.

CONFERENCING, TRAINING & PRESENTATIONS
The Conference/Training Rooms - with overhead audio-visual equipment, flexible seating and multiple in-floor IT terminals - are available to rent for events and presentations.

HANGER LEASING
There are several hangar sites available for lease, each with 200' parking apron frontage. City water/sewer, power and phone lines are within approximately 100 feet of the sites. Leases, commercial and private, are for 40 years, renewable and are priced at 15 cents/sq.ft/year.

The airport is located within the Urban Growth Boundary of the City of John Day and is designated as part of an Economic Enterprise Zone that confers specific tax benefits on qualified businesses. There is vehicle access to nearby highway 26 and the adjacent John Day Industrial Park.

It is an open area featuring comfortable seating, two flat-screen televisions, a stone fireplace, coffee tables and custom cabinets stocked with aviation information and reading material.

There is a built-in sidebar for serving and a mobile bar platform for beverages and food. The lounge area also serves as an entrance to the adjoining Conference Room during training seminars or other scheduled events. There is also a WiFi router to give guests and travelers network access to high-speed Internet connections. Courtesy cars are available for short-term use on a first-come, first-serve basis or by scheduling a reservation.

The Main Conference Room is centrally located on ground level between the main terminal facility and the Helibase. It is accessed from the open Pilot’s Lounge in the public section of the terminal or by USFS personnel from the south section.

REGION 6 MALHEUR HELIBASE

The Malheur Rappel Crew is stationed at the John Day, OR airport. Established in 1971, the John Day facility is now the national training center for all OAS/FS rappel training, in addition to a full Helitack/Rappel crew for firefighting.

The Interagency Helicopter Rappel Program embodies a highly specialized method of aerial delivery of wildland firefighters and allows us to move rappel resources between geographic areas. This allows us to provide an effortless exchange of any rappeller or group of rappellers, their equipment and helicopter with a minimum delay.

Rappelling provides for rapid deployment of personnel nationwide in areas with limited landing areas. Whether it be for fire suppression, medevac or any of the all-risk scenarios we may face in the future, R6/National Academy provides the best possible training to meet these demands and provide the services to which we have dedicated ourselves.
