The Grant County and US Forest Service-Malheur National Forest have planned a joint use facility for General Aviation and Helibase operations. The Engineer's Base Bid estimate range for this project is 3.2 to 3.5 million dollars.
The airport is beginning construction for the runway 9-27 lighting system on July 16th. The runway lights will be upgraded from the current low intensity to medium intensity capacity and have runway end identifiers with threshold markers installed. A precision approach path indicator system will also be installed to enhance final approach guidance to Runway 9. All aspects of this project will enhance safety and allow greater airport access during night and reduced visibility inclement weather.
We have a keen interest in promoting general aviation and economic development both on the airport and in the adjacent Industrial Park and welcome any inquirys regarding our facility.
The Grant County Regional Airport is owned and operated by Grant County. The airport is comprised of four runways (9-27 and 17-35) and is served by a GPS instrument approach system allowing use of the airport in almost any weather conditions. The instrument approach is supported with an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) that reports the current weather every 20 minutes. These reports are available on the internet from several different sources as well as by aircraft radio and telephone.
In the summer of 2008 both runways were extended for both safety and to enhance the use of the airport by small corporate aircraft. With the exception of the taxiway extensions to the new runway ends this project is complete.
The USFS Fire base utilizes both fixed wing and helicopter fire fighting aircraft to protect the surrounding forests. For more information concerning the airport please contact: Airport Manager Colin English airport@grantcounty-or.gov 1-541-575-1151 office 1-206-327-5980 cell
